What iPad developers should know about iPad 1 versus iPad 2

More than 15 million iPads were sold last year, but has the iPad2 been equally well received? Not so much, according to sources. It may be thinner, lighter and faster than the iPad 1, but iPad developers find the iPad 2 nothing to shout about, while most regular users still feel that it lacks important features.

Appearance This is perhaps where the main difference lies. The iPad 2 is almost 33% lighter and thinner than its predecessor. It also has cameras on the front and back, unlike the iPad 1 which doesn't have cameras at all. This opens up opportunities for iPad developers to think about photography and conference related apps and features.

Speed With the new dual-core processor that is faster, and its upgraded graphics, the iPad 2 is supposed to be improved speed wise, making graphics almost nine times faster the iPad 1. It also makes app loading time shorter.

Upgrading Ipad 2 also comes with new hardware, which will be more compatible with apps to come. These apps may not work on the older version. For example, the iPad 2 has updated its cell radio, and radio apps for the previous EDGE plus triband HSPA may not work with the new EDGE plus quadband. Perhaps, this is a great time for iPad developers to think about creating apps that work on both versions of the iPad.

Cost Since the arrival of the iPad 2, Apple has reduced the price of the iPad 1 by $100, which is perhaps why so many iPad developers and potential buyers are having mixed ideas of which to purchase and which to design for. iPad consultants advice that if all one needs is a basic tablet, then the iPad 1 will work brilliantly, but for those who are looking to keep this device for awhile, then perhaps its best investing in the newer version which will be more adaptable for future apps.

As a budding iPad developer, this issue of old versus new might complicate your ideas to create apps, but don't let this demotivate you. Just get some help from a good professional iPad development company, such as Jinibot Mobile Development and you could be well on your way to designing brilliant apps.
